After months of work with our engineers, stakeholder meetings and opportunities for public input, the CID is proud to present the final recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian improvements for the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road corridors.

The plans call for the creation of a robust bicycle and pedestrian network along (and connecting) the Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Indian Trail Road corridors. The Gwinnett Village CID believes that supporting all modes of transport benefits local resident and businesses alike. By working to create an active and healthy community we hope to ensure a vibrant future for the Gwinnett Village community.

In a 2006 Atlanta Regional Commission study, the Jimmy Carter Boulevard/ Singleton Road Intersection was identified as one of the most dangerous in the region.

The new design will include pedestrian and vehicular safety enhancements, as well as congestion-relief benefits at the heavily traveled intersection.

When compared to the existing intersection configuration using 2032 traffic volumes, the proposed improvements will reduce overall delay experienced at the intersection by approximately 35% during the peak AM periods and approximately 48% during the peak PM periods.

This project is a perfect example of how CIDs work in bringing funding partners together to implement much-needed transportation enhancements in our community. The project has funding contributions from Gwinnett County, the State Road and Tollway Authority and the Federal Government.

Mike Mason has called Peachtree Corners “home” for the past 27 years.

It is where he and his wife of 39 years raised their sons Matt and Nick (both grads of Norcross High). It is also where he has been Cub Master, coached myriad youth sports teams, served on most of the local schools’ advisory committees, helped found a neighborhood homeowner’s association – and most recently, became the new city’s first mayor.

“Our community has matured and is no longer new,” Mike said. “We are at a tipping point, which was one of the main reasons we needed to become a city. Our Comprehensive Land Use Plan will be a wonderful opportunity to develop a community-wide vision for the future.”

Mike is also excited about the opportunity to work with Gwinnett Village.

“The CID leadership has created a vision that is an example for surrounding areas,” he said. “It is very beneficial to a new city like ours. We can join into an existing effort rather than starting from scratch.”

He also appreciates the CID’s progress over the last six years.

“Gwinnett Village has a great track record of improvements,” said Mike. “Their hard work
sets an expectation for us to follow…and that’s a good thing.”

When he’s not busy running the city – or being CFO of Amerifleet – you can find Mike at home grilling up something tasty on his Green Egg or gardening with his wife Debbie.

On Tuesday, January 22 the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District (GVCID),
the largest CID in the state of Georgia, released annual crime statistics showing a fifth consecutive year of reductions in targeted crimes and a decrease in overall crimes within the Gwinnett Village community.

Statistics provided by the Gwinnett County Police Department show declines in 2012 in total robbery, commercial burglary and motor vehicle thefts by 6 percent, 35 percent and 6 percent respectively.

“The fact that we have seen these results coming in year after year proves that community initiatives are paying dividends,” said Chuck Warbington, executive director for the Gwinnett Village CID. “I can’t give enough credit to the law enforcement professionals from Gwinnett County PD and Norcross PD who are working day in and day out to make this a safer community. The strength of those partnerships is truly the reason behind the success we’ve seen here.”

In April 2007, the GVCID board of directors voted unanimously to initiate a Targeted Enforcement Zone (TEZ) program to provide additional security coverage for commercial properties in the district. The program is a multi pronged approach that includes consistent graffiti and litter removal, private security patrols, and additional Norcross police patrols- all funded by the CID. The patrols focus on suspicious activity, vehicles and persons in commercial areas of southwest Gwinnett County.

Since the inception of the TEZ program, the targeted crimes have seen significant reductions every year. From 2007 through 2012, total robberies have gone down by 48 percent, total commercial burglaries have seen a drop of 51 percent and motor vehicle thefts have declined by 55 percent.

“This community is safer and consequently more vibrant and attractive for new business and investment than it has ever been,” said Warbington. “We intend to continue our work to ensure that it stays that way.”
